Jessie Irene Silveria
March 10, 1925 - September 22, 2021

Merced, California - Jessie Irene Silveria, age 96, of Merced, passed away September 22, 2021, fifty years after the death of her beloved husband Louis Leroy Silveria. She was born in Woodland to Mary Adaline Barbara Rodgers and Manuel Enos Avilla, whose families came from the Azores.

Jessie, who was also known as Dolly, graduated from Hilmar High School and studied nursing. After living in San Francisco, she and her husband moved to Merced, where he was a California Highway Patrol Officer and they raised their six children.

Jessie worked at McSwain School as a teacher's aide. She was a foster parent, a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years and a longtime member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 83 in Merced.

Jessie was an avid reader, seamstress, traveler and crafter. For many years she crocheted bright afghans and made holiday crafts for family and friends, and enjoyed a home filled with elephant-themed décor of all kinds.

For over two decades Jessie was a welcome visitor at local convalescent homes, playing guitar and leading others in singing. It seems fitting that Jessie left this world to songs sung by her youngest daughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her thirteen brothers and sisters: Lenard, Lenora, Alden, Edward, Grace, Joseph, Stanley, Frank, Elaine, Gertrude, Marian, Daniel, and Alice.

Survivors include her children Susan Dwyer, Karen Baumsteiger (Dave), Steven Silveria (Kim Bui), LuAnn Mello (David), Joan Bowers (Scott), Brian Silveria, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. All of whom loved her dearly and she loved with all her heart.

Jessie leaves many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including her much loved sister-in-law Lula, and beloved cousin, and lifelong friend, Evelyn.

The visitation will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home on October 12 from 9 am to 12 noon. Following the visitation, a private burial service for family will take place at Stevinson Sunnyside Cemetery, on the anniversary of her husband's death. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Hinds Hospice of Fresno, California.
