Jake Valentine Bettevy, 63, died Saturday, April 18, 1953 at 10:30 a.m. in a local hospital. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jake Bettevy, one son, Cecil Bettevy of Carthage, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Sherwood of Roselle, N.J., Mrs. Emily Ream of South Bend, Ind. and Mrs. Charlene Burkhalter of Baton Rouge; seven sisters, Mrs. Ethel Hutchinson of Alexandria, Mrs. Christine Nugent of Pineville, Mrs. Albert Bardwell, Mrs. Kirby Rabalais, Mrs. Amanda Gagnard, all of Marksville, Mrs. Curtis Johnson and Mrs. Ducie Roberts, both of Evergreen, La.

Services were held Sunday, April 19, 1953 in Hixson Bros. chapel at 3:30 p.m. with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Felix Williams officiating. Pallbearers were E.J. Hutchinson, McHenry George, E.E. Beaubouef, Clarence Bardwell, John Roberts. Graveside services were by Geo. M. Simmons Jr. Post No. 3 of the American Legion Commander, Larry Wicks, chaplain, M.C. Gehr, color bearers, Clyde Messer and Hugh Lee.
