Henry Herman Hagemeier was born in Bielefeld, Prussia. July 29, 1845. His name in German is Heinrich, but went by Henry in America. He came to the United States in 1860 at the age of 15, family history says that he came with a brother, unknown. He joined the Union Army in 1861, serving in Company C, Gasconade County Battalion and subsequently in Company E, 4th Regiment Missouri Infantry in which company he served until the end of the Civil War. He received his Naturalization papers in 1866, following his discharge from the army.
On April 3, 1873, he married Martha Jane Allen in Memphis, Missouri. On March 21, 1876, to this union a son was born, August H. Martha died on April 17, 1876, less than a month after the birth of her son. (family lore says that the son August, died somewhere between 1876-1880, but no info has been found to confirm this info).
In 1876 he professed religion, uniting with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Missouri, later transferring his membership to the First Presbyterian church at Hobart, Oklahoma of which he was a member at his death.
He was united in marriage to Miss Lula Nichols, Sept. 2 1877 near Memphis, Missouri. To this union seven children were born. One son, Ernest Harold Hagemeier died at Edna, Texas, Dec. 8 1918 during the flu epidemic.
The family moved from Missouri to northern Oklahoma during the Land Run in February 1894, settling on a farm near Goltry, where they remained until 1915, at which time they came to Kiowa county, living near Gladson School house. Later they moved to Hobart, then to Roosevelt where they have lived almost 2 years.
Mr. Hagemeier has been in failing health for a number of years being confined to his bed the last five months. On his 82nd birthday he suffered a stroke which rendered him totally blind. He passed away quietly in the early morning of January 17.
