Evelyn Shrake, 100, of Mooresville, IN, entered her eternal home of Heaven on September 20, 2021. She was born on August 4, 1921 to the late Lester Charles and Velma Irene Walton of Coatesville, IN.

Evelyn was a graduate of Amo High School in 1939. Following her graduation, she attended the Floyd Jones Sacred School of Music in Indianapolis. She spent one summer traveling with the choir throughout the Western States.

When returning from her travels, she spent time in many churches as an evangelistic soloist and song leader. She met her future husband, Eugene, at a tent revival in Mooresville, IN.

Eugene joined the Navy and Evelyn worked at Allison's. After Gene returned from Brazil, South America, they married on September 15, 1945. The marriage lasted 64 years until Gene's death in 2009.

Gene and Evelyn loved to travel, covering all 50 states. Included in their travels were Israel, Germany, France and Austria. Their last trip in 1995 with their grandson was to Alaska. They followed the pipeline all the way to the oil fields and on to the Arctic Ocean. They then flew to Point Barrow, Alaska where the Eskimos live.

They were charter members of Grace Church in Mooresville and the Faith Missionary Church in Martinsville, IN. In 1987, they joined the Kingsway Christian Church in Avon.

Evelyn started driving a school bus in 1956 for the Mooresville School Corporation and was in bus transportation for 54 years. She loved her job and all the kids.

She is survived by one son; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one brother; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will gather on Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. Services will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with Dr. John Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery.

Anyone that knew Evelyn knew she loved life, people and the Lord as her Savior. Evelyn's favorite song "I Just Saw Jesus" is now a reality and she is now reunited in joy with Gene, the love of her life.
