Ruth Baker was a wonderful person. Born Leanna Ruth, she did what all her family did and went by her middle name. She didn't like her first name and relagated it to a middle name. She had a green thumb and helped care for a large garden and orchard. She loved her cats and her chickens and sold eggs for years to earn money. Creating something wonderful from scraps and bits was second nature to her. The quilts she made with her sisters were beautiful works of art and warm too. She made dolls from anything available. She had dolls made with spools, and tubes, dried apples and old walnuts. She made beautiful barbie doll clothes. Even things that were given to her were altered by her so they were hers and unique.

Her sense of humor permeated her everyday existence and she made fun wherever she went. She taught us to see shapes in clouds and in the pine bark chips that covered the wood pile. She helped us make sailboats of walnut shells and sail them down the ditch. She knew all kinds of funny songs and old wive's tails. She let us feed the chickens and help gather eggs. She laughed a lot both at and with us.

She loved and helped many people. She took care of her parents and her aunt in their old age. Then when her brother died in a tragic mining accident she became the second mother to her nephews and helped to raise them. She made more pies with her sisters than are countable. Most of all she loved her family. She loved her parents, Aunt Carrie and siblings and missed them when they passed. She loved her nieces and nephews as much as she would have her own children. She watched all the immediate family and most of her friends go. She never married but was happy and busy all the same. She was also much loved and admired by friends and family. She lived to be 100 years old.
