Wayne Franklin "Jack" Formanek was born on Friday; June 16, 1933 in Iowa County, Iowa. He was the son of Amos and Cara York Formanek. Wayne received his education in the Iowa County schools and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Jack was employed as a postal carrier for many years. He also farmed and worked at the county landfill. Jack married Erma Kern Smith on Friday; May 15, 1970 in Blairstown; Benton County, Iowa. Erma passed away on Friday; June 1, 2001. Wayne married Gerry Quann Slaymaker on Saturday; June 22, 2002 at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Marengo; Iowa County, Iowa. The couple resided in rural Marengo, Iowa. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76. Wayne Franklin "Jack" Formanek, age 73, passed away on Thursday; March 8, 2007 at his home, following an extended illness. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Gerry. His son: Jeff Formanek of Cedar Rapids; Linn County, Iowa. His two step-sons: Joel & his wife: Sue Smithof of Belle Plaine; Benton County, Iowa and Alan Smith of Houston; Harris County, Texas. His daughter: Kelly Formanek of Blanco; Blanco County, Texas. His three step daughters: Donna & her husband: Larry Montross of Winfield; Henry County, Iowa. Vicki & her husband: Jim Tanke of Marengo, Iowa and Carrie & her husband: Chuck Cummins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also his sister: Kayrol Spinney of Kansas City; Jackson County, Missouri. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Besides his wife: Erma, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Marjorie Bigbee and a niece: Nicky Kinzenbaw. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday; March 11, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday; March 12, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo with the Reverend Jim Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Koszta Cemetery in rural Marengo (Honey Creek Township); Iowa County, Iowa with military honors. A memorial fund has been established.
