Death Takes C. L. Thomas

Charles Lee Thomas, associated with Akers Motor Lines prior to his retirement, died Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. in a local hospital following an illness of three years.
Mr. Thomas, who lived at 847 S. Chester St., was born May 23, 1900 in Cowpens, South Carolina, the son of the late Newton Hampton and Edna Smith Thomas. He lived there almost all of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Dameron Thomas; three sons, Charles R. and David Larry Thomas of Gastonia and Dr. Paul E. Thomas of High Point; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Crawford of Clover, South Carolina, Mrs. Ruth Biggerstaff of Richmond, VA., and Mrs. Frances Huffstetler of Gastonia; one sister, Mrs. Irene Shumate of Jacksonville, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The pastor, the Rev. William F. Long, and Chaplain Robert B. Grigg Jr. of Akers Motor Lines will officiate at the 4 P.M. services Friday at Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be J.E. McNair, J.K. Anderson Jr., John Simoes, John H. Holland, Howard Cloninger, and Victor Potts.
