GASTONIA-- Bessie Dameron Thomas, 847 S. Chester St., died Oct. 16, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Gastonia, daughter of the late Rhette Johnson Dameron and Minnie Theresa Hollis Dameron, and wife of the late Charles Lee Thomas. She was American War Mother of the Year, a member of War Mothers, the West Avenue Senior Club, past Circle chairman, member of the Golden Years Club, the Home Extensions Club, the Hobby Club and Singles Club. She was a lifelong member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Paul E. Thomas of High Point, David L. Thomas of Kings Mountain and Charles R. Thomas of Gastonia; three daughters, Ruth T. Biggerstaff of Glen Allen, Va., Louise T. Crawford of Clover, South Carolina, and Frances T. Huffstetler of Gastonia; two sisters, Margaret D. Workman and Eulala D. Enloe of Gastonia; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Joel Long and Calvin Draffin at 3 P.M. Monday at Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Thomas, 1811 Archwood Drive.
Memorials may be made to Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church, 825 Union Road, Gastonia 28054, or to the American Heart Association.
