John G Johnson Sr is first found in the 1820 Census of Scott County, Indiana. He is enumerated next to his son John G Johnson Jr who had just married Alsha Baker, daughter of John Baker. Later his daughter Avis Johnson would marry David Baker, a son of John Baker. In 1839 John G Johnson makes an original land entry in Owen County, Indiana. It is possible that this land entry was of John G Johnson Jr. In 1840, both are living in Owen County near Avis and David Baker.

In his will written on November 24, 1842 he leaves all his property to his son Harvey to take care of his wife Sarah describing her as Harvey's "old mother." Sarah must have died before 1850 as she is not in the Census. John G names his other 5 children as he gives each $50.

Of interest is that son Thomas C Johnson was the Clerk of the Probate Court and as such filed and recorded the will on April 20, 1847. We are using that as the Date of Death, although probably several days before. When Thomas died in 1848 the Probate Clerk's job was taken on by Thomas's son Issac Johnson.
