He moved to Russell county, Kansas in 1886, and spent eight years in the railway mail service. Later he engaged in the Hay and grain business at Humboldt, Kansas, and Kansas City, with his brother.
On September 1905 he was married to Mrs. Cora E. Wilson, of Wellsville, Kansas.
He leaves wife and children Mrs. J. H. Chapman, of Pomona, California, W. W. Ernst of Madrid, Iowa, and L. R. Ernst of Wellsville.
