George Allan, 91, long-time school teacher here, died Saturday in Saline Evangelical Home, Saline. Services were held Monday at the Peoples Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Vern R. Campbell officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Greenwood Cemetery, Rockford, Illinois. The Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born July 30, 1895 in Rockford, Illinois, he was the son of Andrew and Anna (Eckman) Allan. He married Mildred Stalker, who died in 1937. He then married Ruth Vaughn in 1940. She also preceded him in death. He had been a teacher at Milan High School for 35 years, retiring in 1960. For 24 years, he taught agriculture in the school and he instructed returning World War II veterans in vocational agriculture through the school for four years. From 1953, he taught biology and economics. During his first year at the school, he organized the Milan High School Agricultural Club, which later developed into the Milan Chapter of Future Farmers of America. He also had been a track coach. The George Allan School of Milan was named for him. A military veteran of World War I, he was a member and elder of Peoples Presbyterian Church. He graduated in 1924 from Michigan Agricultural College (Now Michigan State University) and received his master's degree in 1932 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also was past master of Milan Lodge 323, Free and Accepted Masons. He also had been a Boy Scout leader in Milan and also was a member of the Milan Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by two nieces, a nephew and a grandnephew. He also was preceded in death by a brother and sister. Memorials may be made to the Peoples Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
