Mr. Jones is a veteran of the United States Navy having served during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He had first enlisted after high school and served eight years during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones later re-enlisted and served an additional four years during the Vietnam War.
Prior to his retirement in 1995, Mr. Jones worked for over 25 years as the superintendent of Public Works in North Plainfield.
He was a member of the North Plainfield VFW and was an avid NY Giants football fan.
He is predeceased by his wife Edith Jones in 2014. He is survived by his son Roger Jones Jr. of TN; four daughters Helen Will of TN, Linda Wisser of Toms River, Lisa Anello and her husband John of Bridgewater and Debbie Przybylski of Raritan. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Steven, Megan, Ashley, Alyssa, Tyler, Heather, Collin and Nycole and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Higgins Home for Funeral 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. The interment will follow at Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway, NJ. Memorial donations may be made in his loving memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
