"Maurine Short, 81, formerly of St Joseph, died Monday at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

A native of Miami, Mo., she moved to St Joseph in 1954. She had resided at Palm Beach Gardens since September. A member of the Methodist faith, Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Sherman Short, Sr., who died this past April.

Surviving are a son, Virgil S. Short, Jr., and two daughters, Joan Roumas and Shirley Reno, all of Palm Beach Gardens; and two stepsons, Jewel J. Short of Normal, Ill., and Harold A. Short of Sacramento, Calif. Also surviving are six sisters, Nellie Hemphill of Aledo, Ill., Lola Moore of Kansas City, Delilah Phillips of Brookfield, Mo., Mayme Mason of Toppenish, Wash., Goldie McAlister of Wapato, Wash., and Nadine Dolan of Trenton, Mo.; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren, five step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery." St Joseph News-Press, November 12, 1985
