James Edward "Nubbin" Allen
July 15, 1933 ~ September 8, 2021 (age 88)
James Edward "Nubbin" Allen, 88, of Fountain Hill, died Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Mr. Allen was a native of Oak Grove, Louisiana and a resident of Fountain Hill since 1965. He worked as a share-cropper from the time he could pick up a hoe, plant, seed and pick cotton, drive a mule and then a tractor. He farmed several acres in Oak Grove and Kilbourne, Louisiana on the Ward's Farm. When he moved to Fountain Hill, he went to work in the garment industry and retired from S.E.A.M.S. Inc, after many years of service. Mr. Allen was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and the Allen's Hunting Club. From an early age, he was known as a "prankster" and loved to pick and joke. He and his brother would climb up to a hornet's nest, just to see who would get stung the most and he was known to catch wasps in his hands. Mr. Allen enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, and skating. He was an excellent gardener, always had the prettiest gardens and would sleep in the garden, on a cot, to keep the deer away.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anice Elizabeth Stanley Allen in 2014; his granddaughter, Jennifer Davidson in 2019; his parents, Robert T. & Rosie Beatrice Worley Allen; seven brothers, Otis, Charlie, Elton, Marvin, Horace, Calvin and Willie Allen; two sisters, Gloria Jean Lair and Clara Mae Allen; his daughter-in-law, Lynda Hogan Allen and several beloved brothers and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann Hollis and husband, Charles; two sons, Phillip Allen and Wayne Allen all of Fountain Hill; two brothers, Rev. Otha Allen and wife, Carolyn, of Flora, Mississippi and Bobby R. Allen of Oak Grove, Louisiana; a sister, Mary Dean Davis and husband, Garland, of West Monroe, Louisiana; 5 grandchildren, James Davidson and wife, Crystal, Brad Allen (that has been missing for over four years), Angie Clavet and husband, Buddy, Tiria Allen and Bryan Allen and wife, Katelyn; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren, several brothers and sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 3 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Elvin McDill and Bro. Harold Yandell officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers are Stan Craig, Tony Craig, Micky Craig, Jeff Meeks, Bimbo Meeks, Joey Meeks, Rickey Price and Michael Jeffers. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Nevels, Melvin Ward, Troy Cruz, Ravi Wadhwani, Lewis Carter, his nephews and the members of Allen's Hunting Club.
