MULLINS - Edgar Lee "Sam" Buffkin, 77, husband of Betty Hilburn Buffkin of Mullins, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on the warm afternoon of Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Sam was born in Horry County, South Carolina on December 27, 1943, a late Christmas present to his parents, the late Walter Buffkin and the late Minnie Wilson Buffkin. Sam loved his family, he was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. In taking care of his family, Sam took a job with AVM in Marion as a machine operator for nearly thirty-five years. He loved the outdoors. He loved the mountains, it was his favorite place to visit, but he was a sightseer, and he would take opportunities to see other places as well. He was a member of Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Buffkin in addition to his wife of the home are two children, Donna (Steve) McCrackin of Nichols and Travis (Sherry) Beck also of Nichols; three sisters, Dianne (Jim) Crouse of Mullins, Ina Richardson of Mullins and Jeanette (Roger) Williams of Whiteville, NC; a brother, Jesse Buffkin of Mullins; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Mr. Buffkin was predeceased by two brothers, Elton Pete Buffkin and Gene Buffkin.
A graveside service for Mr. Buffkin will be held Friday afternoon, September 10 at 2:00 p.m. in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Thad Jacobs and Rev. Hoyt King officiating. The services are being directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.
