About the Artist (from her blog site)
As an artist and survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I am committed to breaking the silence that surrounds this societal disease. As an artist, I want to create beautiful and meaningful art, as a survivor, I want to connect with other victims and give them a public voice so we may share in educating the public and breaking the silence. The Show Of Hands is a collection of handprints; each representing a survivor that has put up his or her hand to be counted. The handprints will be the basis for an installation; my goal is 5000 sheets creating an ocean of blues. This blog is my forum to share this beautiful artwork. I hope you are touched by the images and appreciate the courage, creative talent and compassion that goes into this imagery

About the handprint ...
This is my handprint. I choose to do mine as a reverse shadow because I wanted the effect of being tattooed. What was done to me one summer when I was a child forever altered my life; it is permanent and can never be removed. It left scars that went unnoticed or ignored for many years. But once my denial was too painful to continue my healing finally began.
Today I am able to remember a few good things from that summer, one of which was watching the abusers wife make delicate handmade lace. This tattoo is a reminder to me that I have been marked in life but I have a choice as to how I live with and wear those markings.
