Obituary for George Washington Hill in The Corsicana Daily Sun Newspaper (Corsicana, Navarro Co., Texas) published Tuesday, September 18, 1962:

Monday Rites
George W. Hill

Funeral services for George W. Hill, 68, who was found dead at his residence, 819 West Tenth avenue, Sunday morning, were held Monday at 4 p.m. from the Missionary Baptist church with burial in the Hamilton cemetery.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Bruce Hibbitt, pastor.

"Natural causes' was the coroner's verdict returned by Justice of the Peace Grover C. Bowden following an investigation by Police Officers J. W. Dunlap and G. G. Jamison.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Effie Hill, Corsicana; four sons, G. J., George William, Jr., and James Roy Hill, all of Corsicana, and Douglas Hill, Houston; three daughters, Miss Rosa Lee Hill, Corsicana; Mrs. Hazel Herrin and Mrs. Opal Cunningham, both of Memphis, Tenn.; step-father and step-mother, Rev. and Mrs. J. F. Prince, Corsicana; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Brown and Mrs. Lorene Coffey, both of Corsicana; three brothers, Ollie, Earl, and John D. Prince, all of Corsicana; seven grandchildren and other relatives.

Pallbearers were H. L. Callahan, Bruce Callahan, Howard Callahan, J. C. Callahan, Kenneth Haley and Dub Haley.

Griffin directed.

Note: Surviving son "James Roy Hill" was his step-son James Roy Avery. George Washington Hill was first married to Mattie Lee Dyer in 1916. His last marriage was to Mrs. Effie Mae (Callahan) Avery in 1941.
