Garth W. Lacey, 87, of Danbury, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Willow Dale Wellness Center in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, Iowa, with the Rev. Kevin Freese officiating. Burial was in Ida Grove Cemetery, Ida Grove, Iowa.

Garth William Lacey was born to William John "W. J." and Agnes (Owens) Lacey, on June 27, 1920, near Danbury, the youngest of five children. When he was 2 years old, his family moved to the farm, where he lived all of his life prior to entering Willow Dale Wellness Center in Battle Creek in February 2005.

He attended school at the country school Garfield 9. He engaged in farming with his father on the family farm. He married Doris Still of Ida Grove, Iowa, on June 17, 1944 at Ida Grove Methodist Church. They farmed near Danbury until retiring in September 1985.

He loved his wife and family. He was grateful to have adopted his children. After the tragic loss of their 3-year old daughter, Kay Lynn in 1953, God brought three more children into their lives.

He was a member of the Battle Creek Lions Club. He also served on the Battle Creek School board and the Mapleton Co-op board. Everywhere he went, he enjoyed visiting with people. He loved to share stories of personal and local history. Driving his three-wheeler and pickup around the section brought enjoyment to his day. His grandchildren brought him a great delight. His nieces and nephews meant a great deal to him.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris; three children, Douglas (Gail) Lacey, Debra Lacey and Deanne Quayle; grandchildren, Ben (Katie) Lacey, Jennifer (Nathaniel) Feddes, Jill Lacey, Megan, Kristopher, Jesse, Levi and Isaiah Quayle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gladys Bower, Doris Still, Glen and Phyllis Still, June Grieve, Walter and Audrey Kent, Irene Meyer, Marvin and Bette Still and Jeannie Still; many nieces and nephews; and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kay Lynn; granddaughter, Hannah Grace Quayle; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Clara Lacey, Vance and Faye Lacey and Galen and Odelia (Dege) Lacey; a sister and brother-in-law, Garnet and Herman Sohm; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jay Bower, Everett Still, LeRoy and Lila Buck, Howard Still and Ron Still.
