His father is David Alexander Welch & mother is Mildred "Milly" Melton. He lived on Kirkland Branch of Chambers Creek as well as other Welch's, Also, other family lived in Bushnell area across the river in Cherokee (Graham) County, and in present Macon County.

Genealogist in the Western NC mountains believe that his father died in White County, Tennesse; not NC after 1815-16 near his older brother Thomas, Jr.

His mother Milly is 100% is in this cemetery as we visited this cemetery September 2021 & I photographed entire cemetery and talked to the local historians.
