Last Saturday, Mrs. Mary Frances McCombs passed away. Mrs. McCombs at the time of her death was perhaps the oldest person in Texas. She was born near Chattanooga, Tennessee. She married John W. McCombs in Ringgold, Georgia in 1844. The couple moved to Denton County, Texas in 1853. She moved from Denton County to Fisher County in 1889. At the time of her death, she was visiting her son, S.A. McCombs in the Luzon Community in Kent County, Texas. She was the mother of three girls and seven boys. Mrs. McCombs was buried at her old homestead in Grady, Texas. Her casket was draped with a bedspread that was spun by her own hands and embroidered with name and date by her mother. She was a wonderful Christian woman. Loving and honored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survived by six sons - W.L. McCombs, S.A. McCombs, J.J. McCombs, C.W. McCombs, G.G. McCombs, and J.W. McCombs. In 1924, she could count up to 156 direct descendants.
