Jesse Cleaver Sr., 81, father of Roy Cleaver of Mulberry, died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Hengst, Lafayette, after an illness of nine weeks' duration.

Mr. Cleaver was born near Monitor and lived there and in the Buck Creek community before going to Lafayette 17 years ago. He was married to Bertha A. Haley in 1900. She died in 1956. He was a farmer at first and later was employed by the Lafayette Water Works. He worked for the Tippecanoe county courthouse and highway department. He was a member of the Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan church in Lafayette.

Surviving with the daughter are two sons, Harold of Toledo, Ohio, and Roy of Mulberry; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Roy Cleaver has been a teacher at Mulberry high school for more than fifteen years.

Last rites for the deceased man were held Tuesday afternoon at the Wesleyan church of which he was a member. Burial was in the Dayton cemetery.
