Born January 14, 1934, on John's Island, SC, son of the late Eugene Hay Walpole, Sr. (1900–1978) and Cornelia Porcher Walpole (1903–1980); husband of Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Barnes Walpole Weller (1936–2021).
A graduate of St. John's High School and Presbyterian College; served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; employed by Burlington Industries for twelve years as Human Relations Director. After moving to Spartanburg in 1972, owned Walpole and Associates, Inc., an executive recruiting firm, and later operated Lighting Supply Company.
Served as elder at First Presbyterian Church, Forest City, NC and was Jaycees' Young Man of the Year in Forest City. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg, served as a deacon, elder, and teacher of the Men's Bible Class; faithfully served in many ministries of his church; was also active in Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Downtown Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and served on Presbyterian College's Board of Visitors.
Survived also by his son, Dr. H. E. "Chip" Walpole, Jr. (DeAnn); daughter, Beth Walpole Neidenbach (Dr. Peter J.); seven grandchildren Gambrell, Trey, and Caroline Walpole and Charles, Sarah Glenn, Charlotte, and Thomas Neidenbach; sisters, June Walpole Dickerson, Mary Walpole Allston, Lucia Walpole Welch; brothers, Eugene Hay Walpole, Sr. and John B. Walpole; and many devoted nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by a brother, Philip Gerdron Porcher Walpole (15 Jan 1921 – 17 Aug 1982).

Memorial service held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 17, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg conducted by the Rev. Dr. David A. Renwick and the Rev. Dr. Albert G. Peery, Jr.
