Delores F. Salamone, 85 of Philadelphia, went to her heavenly home on Aug. 28, 2021.

Born in Loganton on April 12, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Estella (Snook) Salamone.

She grew up in the Jersey Shore area and graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1954. Following graduation, she spent the next year involved with Brethren Volunteer Service in Baltimore, Md. working with very poor children. She then moved to Washington D.C. to further her education and graduated from nursing school in 1963. While working in Washington D.C., she was instrumental in the leading and development of a local coronary unit.

In 1971 she moved to Philadelphia to attend the University of Pennsylvania, earning a degree in sociology. In 1985 she earned a master's Degree in education from Temple University.

As her passion was to work with older adults she became the Director of Nursing at the Unitarian Universalist House, a personal care facility in 1988. The Administrator had said of her "Delores was a leader in the field of nursing" which is evident from her many awards, too numerous to mention. In the fall of 2000, after serving 12 years as Director of Nursing, she retired.

On April 2, 1997, she was awarded the "Director of Nursing of the Year Award" presented by the PA Association Directors of Nursing Administration/Long Term Care (PADONA/LTC).

In March of 2000, after having over 30 years of nursing experience, she along with 89 other nurses were chosen by the People to People and the Chinese Nursing Association to travel to China and learn how patients were taken care of in a foreign country. While in China, she visited the Great Wall of China.

Following retirement she then spent the rest of her life enjoying people, her many church friends, the neighbors in her apartment complex and family. She continued to be involved on many committees and community functions.

Delores developed a new hobby of ceramics and had many pieces on display in her apartment.

She always enjoyed coming home to the Jersey Shore area and the Snook Family Reunion was always a highlight of her return. Ironically, she passed away on the day of the 2021 reunion, that she was so hopeful to attend.

Delores leaves a legacy of a very fruitful and humble life.

She is survived by her sister, Grace (Philip) Christian of Rauchtown, three nephews and many grand nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
