BETTY JO MICKLER HARDMAN

Betty Jo Mickler Hardman passed away on August 2, 2012 in her home in Edgewater, Florida surrounded by her family.

Born on November 23, 1928 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she grew up in Tampa and St. Augustine, Florida. She graduated from Ketterlinus High School and met her husband, Marvin "Whitey" Hardman, while serving as a U.S.O. hostess in St. Augustine during his shore leave shortly after World War II ended. They were married on June 15th, 1946.

She worked as an administrative assistant for various defense industry companies and the Florida State University Urban Research Center before becoming a full time homemaker. She and Whitey lived in many of the United States and in Trinidad as she supported his career in the aerospace industry. They settled in Edgewater in 1994 when he retired. She was a member of Shrinettes, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi, and Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a tireless and enthusiastic member/officer of every organization and was often recognized for her contributions. She was selected as the Woman of the Year 1970-1971 in Titusville, Florida by the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a charter member of the Hacienda Girl's Ranch Women's Guild. She was a loving and generous wife, devoted mother, caring relative and supportive friend. She will be remembered for her Southern hospitality and charm, generosity, sense of humor, work ethic and thoughtful nature.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Cribbs; her father, Edgar Mickler; and her husband, Marvin "Whitey" Hardman.

She is survived by her son, Marvin "Bud" Hardman and his wife Mary; her son, Joseph Hardman and his wife Lola; her daughter, Melissa Storey and her husband Woody; her brother, Brice Mickler and his wife Bonnie; grandchildren, Aaron Hardman, Shawn Hardman, Jeremy Hardman, Christopher Hardman, Sasha Hardman, Nadia Hardman; a nephew, Terry Mickler and his wife Linda; a niece, Michelle Braddock and her husband Roger; great-grandchildren; great-nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach. Burial will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, Edgewater. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home. Condolences may be made online at www.settlewilderfuneralhome.com.
