Martha is the daughter of John D Ritchie Sr. (Richey) and Elizabeth 'Betsey' (maiden name possible Wilson), they came from Kentucky to Clay County, Missouri around 1830 and she married Samuel Holmes Jan 9, 1834, in Clay County, Missouri.

The death certificate of her daughter Emily Belle says Martha was born in Caldwell county, Kentucky.

Known children based on the 1850 census in Clinton Co., and 1860 in DeKalb Co., Missouri plus research, all children born in Missouri:
