Wife of Elijah Wilburn Springer
D/O George & Elizabeth (Dobbins) Hillhouse

Jane Hillhouse Springer was the oldest child of George H Hillhouse and Elizabeth (Dobbins) Hillhouse. She was born 28 May 1808 in Livingston County, Kentucky, but soon after her birth the family removed to Giles County, Tennessee. Various census records, tax records and court documents record the presence of the Hillhouse family in Giles County. Jane Hillhouse married Elijah Wilburn Springer in Giles County on 13 February 1827. About 1840 Jane and Elijah Springer migrated to Lawrence County, Missouri, where some of her siblings had already settled, also moving from Tennessee. Jane and Elijah Springer were parents of two children: daughter Sarah Ann, b. 25 November 1827, m. Lemuel Whaley Allen, Sr, and James Dobbins Springer, b. 26 April 1839 in Tennessee. James Dobbins Springer was married three times, was the father of 13 children, and was an ordained minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Jane and Elijah Springer lived in Lawrence County on Honey Creek (See 1870 plat map of Lawrence County: T 27, R26, S 23). Both Jane and Elijah were mentioned several times (two entries below) in her brother's diary, The Diary of James Dobbins Hillhouse:

"May 28, 1892 This is Sister Springers 84th birthday. She is here in Aurora and is very peart."

and this very touching entry recording her death:

"13 July 1894 I go to Allens. Old sister is dying. She breathes her last at 4:25 pm. She was 86 years one month and a half old. It was a long thread but it wound off after awhile. Blessed are they that endure to the end."
