Services for Lola Fay (Matthews) Williams, 99, of Gause were held Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Gause Baptist Church in Gause with burial in the Gause Cemetery. Don Hancock officiated.

Mr s . Wi l - liams died Wednesday, April 24, in Hearne Health Care.

She was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Gause to Rufus Floyd and Bessie Ann (Bailey) Matthews.

She married Jesse Nathaniel Williams on July 26, 1930, in Gause. Shortly thereafter, they moved to and lived in the nearby communities of Pin Oak and Hanover until 1943.

In the ensuing years, they lived in many places, from the Southern tip of Texas to the Texas Panhandle.

In 1963, they retired on a farm inside the Milam-Bell County line southeast of Rogers.

Upon her husband's death in 1972, Mrs. Williams returned to Gause, living across the street from the Post Office for 37 years.

She enjoyed cooking for the holidays and having her family to celebrate with her. The door was always open to her many friends and neighbors.

Her favorite pastime was playing dominoes. At age 84, Mrs. Williams won the first annual 42 Tournament held by the Gause Volunteer Fire Department. She held that honor for three consecutive years and was awarded with a certificate.

She was a member of Gause Baptist Church.

She was moved to Hearne Health Care in 2008 after falling and breaking five ribs.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Nathaniel Williams; two daughters, Frances Riley Jordan and Mary Sue Pratt; two sons- in- law, Linden A. Riley and Arlie Jordan; a grandson, Jesse Earl Pratt; a sister, Clara Ashley; and seven brothers, Emmett, Edward, Bailey, Russell, Dueward, Ollie and J.P. Matthews.

Survivors include a son, Walter " Bud" Williams and w ife Velmalene of Yoakum; a sonin law, Odell Pratt of Gause; and a sister, Gertrude Welch of Hearne; also, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
