Survivors include his five daughters, Mary (Lawrence) Duplechain, Helen (Arthur; deceased) Kennison, Earlene Duplechaine, Marie (Roy) Perry, all of Houston, and Beverly (Mariet) Ford of San Francisco; three sons, James and Berchman of Houston and Allen (Lillian) of Sunset; two sisters, Mary Louise Charles and Cordelia Lastrapes; and one brother, Sidney (Catherine) of Opelousas; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; and seven great, great, grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexis Charles and the former Pauline Robert; wife, Mary Adams Charles; five sons, Alvin Charles, Alcide Charles, Jr., Paul Charles, Peter Charles and Frank Xavier Charles; four brothers; Arthur Charles, Clarence Charles, Lawrence Charles and Theodore Doris Charles; and one granddaughter, Felicia Charles.
