Jennie C. Waine

A homemaker and cook who had worked for the Battle Ground School District, Jennie Caroline Waine, 89, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Battle Ground.

Mrs. Waine was born March 20, 1912, in Brush Prairie and grew up in Venersborg. She graduated from high school in Astoria, Ore., where she lived for a short time before returning to Clark County and settling in Hockinson.

She was a member of the United Finnish Kavela Brothers and Sisters and enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, cooking and her family. She was also interested in genealogy and had completed her own family tree and contributed to the Finish Historical Society of the West.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Onnie Korhonen, in 1956; her second husband, Lauri "Buck" Waine, in 1984; and three sons, David (1965), Lloyd (1986) and Jon (1988) Korhonen.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Dean Korhonen and Shelly Conklin; and two great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no service. Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the United Finnish Kavela Brothers and Sisters.
