Keith H. "Hatchet" Hillen, age 45, of Vanderbilt, Pa., died Monday, November 19, 2007, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, Pa.

He was born July 2, 1962, in Connellsville, Pa., the son of William R. Hillen of Vanderbilt and Susan Shallenberger Hillen of Dunbar, Pa.

"Hatchet" graduated from Connellsville High School, Class of 1980.

He was employed by United Parcel Service (UPS), New Stanton, Pa., and he also worked as a cook at The Paint Room Restaurant in Connellsville.

He was a member of Saint John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville, Moose Lodge No. 16 in Connellsville, the Slovak Club and the Juniata Sportsmen's Club.

He was also a member of the Ten Pin Bowling League.

"Hatchet" was an avid softball player and he loved hunting, fishing and golf.

In addition to his father and mother, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn Galik Hillen; his mother, Diane Wilson Hillen; two children: Emily R. Hillen and Marney O. Hillen both at home; two brothers: Scott Hillen and his wife, Karen, of Little Summit, Fayette County, Pa., and Darrel Singo and his wife, Pam, of Jefferson Hills, Pa.; three sisters: Lisa Rowen and her husband, James, of Culpepper, Virginia, Laura Singo of Meadville, Pa., and Christi Kimmel and her husband, Randy, of Juniata, Pa.; his nieces and nephews: Anna, Sarah, Jessica, Shannon, Josh, Haliegh, Hannah and Colton; his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Verlaine Wilson of Connellsville, Pa.; and his special friend, Michele Flynn and her children, Conner, Ashten and Hunter, all of Dunbar, Pa.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Ethel Hillen, and his maternal grandparents, James H. Shallenberger and Elizabeth Shallenberger Graham.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 9 p.m. and Thanksgiving Day from 5 to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., where a Blessing Service will be held Friday, November 23, 2007, at 9:30 a.m.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Father John Butler as Celebrant.

Interment follows in Laurel Hill Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Nicholson Cancer Fund, Post Office Box G, Normalville, PA 15469 in memory of Keith H. "Hatchet" Hillen.
