He graduated from Ribault High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and became a sergeant serving in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on April 27, 1972. He also served in the Air National Guard and the Reserve of the United States Air Force as a sergeant and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1980. He then worked for the Nassau County Fire Department as a certified firefighter and paramedic and retired after over 20 years of service.
Bob loved going on Disney cruises and taking his granddaughters on trips. He is survived by his wife Alice, Wade Gilliard (Julie), Ginger Cassada, granddaughters Kate Gilliard and Allison Cassada, his aunt Betty Marsh, many cousins, sons Michael Turner, and John Turner. Alongside his wife Alice, he was a member of the North Jacksonville Baptist Church, where they served in many capacities.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday September 2, 2021 at the graveside at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL with Dr. Herb Reavis, Pastor of North Jacksonville Baptist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the North Jacksonville Baptist Church via their website or at 8531 North Main St, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
