NOTE: Walter McDaniel, Mrs. Schultz's biological father, died in a construction accident two months before she was born. It appears her stepfather, Alexander Cole, adopted her and that she was known as Betty Cole before her marriage — but per her stepfather and mother's obituaries (as well as her own), she used the name Betty McDaniel Schultz after her marriage; therefore, McDaniel is the maiden name used on this memorial.Funeral for Betty Jean (McDaniel) Schultz, 78, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Schultz, who was born in Spokane, died Friday. She was a lifetime resident of Spokane.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and attended Kinman Business University.

In 1943 she married John H. Schultz.

Mrs. Schultz was an active member of the YMCA senior exercise group for several years.

Her husband, John, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, James Schultz, and a daughter, Susan Norton, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren, Stacy Styren, Aaron Schultz, Jennifer Donahue, Sarah Donahue, and Shannon Funnemark.
