George Warlick enlisted at age 20, on 6 June 1861, in the unit that became Company F, 23rd Regiment, North Carolina Troops. He was wounded at Chancellorsville on 3 May 1863. After returning to duty, he was captured at Cedar Creek, VA , on19 Oct 1864. PVT Warlick was confined at Point Lookout, MD, until he was released on 21 June 1864 after taking the Oath of Allegiance. George's brother-in-law, Abraham Reinhardt (married to sister Julia Ann Warlick), also serving in Company F of the 23rd NC, was killed at Gettysburg on 1 July 1863.
He married Harriet Linn (1844-1920) in Catawba County on 7 Nov 1867, and they had the following children: Commodore Miles Warlick (1868-1911); Daniel Robert Warlick (1872-1895); Florence Victors Warlick (1873-1902); Franklin Eugene Warlick(1876-1936); Cora Ann Warlick (1880-1938); and Samuel Jones Warlick (1886-1970).
From the "Newton Enterprise" dated Friday, 7 Apr 1899: "George Warlick, an old Confederate soldier, was buried at Wesley's Chapel grave yard, on the 31rst of March last."
