Obituary- James E. Adams

Houghton Lake, Michigan

(formerly of Bay City)

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and proud U.S. Marine passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Munson Medical Center in Grayling, age 74. Jim was born December 20, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Unger and Gertrude (Taylor) Adams. He was a Vietnam veteran and served his country from 1966 to 1970 with the U.S. Marine Corps Purple Foxes Helicopter Squadron. Jim married Evelyn M. (Jacobs) Brown on August 17, 2013 and she survives him. He was employed with the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw as a therapist for more than fifteen years until his retirement in 2005. He was a life member of the VVA, DAV, the Marine Corps League, and VFW #7542 in Birch Run and Anishinabe Ogitchidan-Veterans and Warriors Society. Jim was a strong member and supporter of Toys for Tots and mentored several veterans and their families over the years. He was an instructor at the UAW camp at Black Lake for 33 years, helping countless veterans with PTSD. Jim was not only devoted to his country but his Native American ancestry and customs as well, which will be a part of his service on Thursday.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Evelyn, four children: John Adams, Julie Adams, David Brown and Toby (Carrie) Brown, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one sister Pat Mallett and many nephews. Jim was predeceased by his second wife Bernice (Stevens) Adams, two sisters, Susi Bellows and Ann Adams and one brother John Adams.
