Martha Jo Loftis passed away at 1:30am on August 21, 2021 at the age of 81.

Martha Jo Loftis was born March 14, 1940, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Martin and Oleta Baker.  As a young girl, she always helped take care of her three younger brothers whom she loved very much.  Her family moved several times before they settled in Galena Park.  After graduation, Jo married the love of her life, Jimmie Loftis. Jimmie built them a home in Sagemont then later moved to Pearland.  They enjoyed a life of love, respect, family and spent their leisure time traveling, fishing, camping, cruising and visiting extended family for vacations.

Jo is proceeded in death by her Father- Martin D Baker, Mother- Oleta Cox Baker, Brothers- Robert, Martin Jr and Wayne Baker, Sons- Johnny and Danny Paul Loftis, Son in Law- Chuck Shewell.

Jo is survived by her Husband of almost 62 loving years, their daughters- Julie Everts (Les) and Lorie Shewell (Paul Lewis).  Jimmie and Jo have 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  As well as a host of life-long friends, people they consider their "children" and "family".

Jo was a homemaker until all the kids reached school age. She worked for Jimmie during the years he owned a construction company, worked at Wright Light and moved on to work for Overhead Door Company, from which she retired.  Two of her favorite past times were to play Bunco and attend activities in the Southern Belles Red Hat Group.  She also enjoyed an occasional trip to the Casino!

Martha never liked her name so most people knew her as "Jo" or "Grandma Jo".  As the Matriarch of the Loftis family, she loved to cook large meals and have everyone over whether it was a holiday or impromptu gathering.  One of her prize recipes was her dressing with Turkey.  She insisted on making it regardless of how weak or ill she may have been.  There was not a birthday she forgot, holiday or special occasion to be missed.  Jo's family was always her first priority.  Her treasures were not material items, they were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jo had an extraordinary gift of being a caregiver.  Not only did she care for her many grandchildren on occasion but she also worked as a Candy Striper Volunteer at Bayshore Hospital, was the dedicated care giver to her Mother n Law, Mother, and most recently to Jimmie.

Jo will be remembered for her smile, generosity, unconditional love, friendship, loyalty, dedicated employee, faith, fun personality, love of travel, sharp tongue, honesty, adventure, and the countless memories that were shared.
