Ronald E. "Ron" Hovey was born to Ross J. Hovey and Edna M. (Bollinger) Hovey. He was a graduate of Andrew Community High School.

He married Sabra "Sue" Stout on July 29, 1967 in Maquoketa Iowa.

Ron first worked for J.I. Case as a machine operator. He then worked for Swiss Valley-Land O Lakes as a milk deliveryman and after 13 years he took a job with John Deere Dubuque Works as a machinist for 9 years. Following a companywide downsizing he went to work for Caterpillar in Mt. Joy, Iowa. In 1982, he and his wife Sue opened Hovs Pub in Maquoketa. The restaurant quickly became a popular eatery and pub in Maquoketa. They retired in October of 2006.

Ron was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and looked forward to family dinners. He also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sports as well as hunting and fishing. He especially loved his dog Max.

He was preceded in death by his parents & 6 brothers.
