This is a celebration of life for Beverley Jean Dorris Hadnot.
Beverley Jean Dorris Hadnot, a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, died August 20, 2021 in Houma, La. She was 85.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Buddy, who passed on August 21, 2012.
She is survived by her family members including four children; Mark and Lorraine Hadnot of Orem, UT; Stacy and Ron Mangels of Houma, LA; Melanie and Jeff Wingo of Leavenworth, KS and James Hadnot of Nashville, TN; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters; Sandra D. O'Neil of CT; Elizabeth D. Eastin of TX; many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held in her honor on August 23, 2021 at Samart Funeral Home, West Park at 10:30am till funeral time at 11:00am. The burial will take place on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, LA at 11:00 am.
Beverley was born Dec. 5, 1935, to Major Herbert E. Dorris and Hiawatha M. Reddy in Kansas City, Mo.
She graduated from Istrouma High School in 1954.
On august 16, 1935 she married "Buddy" Billy Howard Hadnot of Baton Rouge and together they raised four children.
During her life she lived in Kansas City, MO; Napoleonville, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; New Orleans, LA; and Murfreesboro, TN.
Her personal life was focused primarily on family, friends, and church.
Early in their married lives the Hadnot's joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed many years of active service. Her life's great passion was doing family history research and in the process found thousands of ancestors and associated family members.
One of her legacy accomplishments was managing the Genealogy Library at Louisiana State University where she helped countless people research their family heritage. She also enjoyed serving in the Family History Library at church.
Another legacy accomplishment was serving in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple. Beverley and Buddy had an active role in serving in the temple and were honored to be part of the temple dedication ceremony in May 1999.
Beverley relished a great love of history and served as a docent at several historical sites, to include the USS Kidd Veterans Museum in Baton Rouge, Magnolia Mound Plantation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana State University's Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge where she demonstrated open hearth cooking, and the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna, Tennessee.
