M. A. ZORNES, 98, ALMOTA PIONEER FREIGHTER, DIES
COLFAX, Wash., March 9.-- M. A. Zornes, 98, a native of Iowa, who freighted from Almota through Colfax and to Lewiston, Idaho, before the railroads were built, died last night at Santa Monica, Calif;, where he went recently from Spokane. The body will be brought to Winona for services and burial.
Mr. Zornes homesteaded near Benge. Later he was a resident of Wenatchee for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gladys
Dequer, Santa Monica; three sons, Wesley in California; Charles at Tule Lake, Ore.; and Sherman, Edmonton, Alta. Grandchildren include Mrs. J. I. Wise and Fay Wiedrich, Lacrosse; and Mrs. Gene Marsh, Winona.
