Virginia Mae Berend was born on September 7, 1937, in Pelican Rapids, MN, daughter of John and Selma Buehler Berend.

She married Lloyd Luverne Burnside at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, MN, June 28, 1957, and together they raised their family farming north of Hawley, MN. When the children were all of school age, she worked at the Super Valu in Hawley for seven years.

She is remembered as a loving wife, mother and a gentle soul who cared about her family, friends and all who knew her. Along with her fondness for gardening, she was a wonderful cook, who enjoyed feeding anyone who came to her home. She was also a baker, renowned for her homemade pies and donuts.
