Alva – Services for Louis Raymond Gatz, 78, who died Thursday, November 25, 1993, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 29 at the First United Methodist Church in Alva. The Rev. Larry J King, pastor, will officiate with burial following in the Alva Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Wharton Funeral Home in Alva.
The son of Fred and Allie Hendricks Gatz, he was born June 10, 1915 on a farm southwest of Alva. He attended the Goshen Rural Grade School, Northwestern Normal High School and Northwester Normal College.
On August 7, 1938, he married Eva Dimmick at Alva and the couple began farming southwest of Alva. Gatz was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Home Builders Sunday school class and was past president of the Woods County Farm Bureau, serving on its board of directors for 30 years. He also was a member of the Woods County Cattlemen Association and the Oklahoma Cattlemen Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Chase of Tishomingo; a son, Joe Gatz of Alva; two sisters, Rena Baxter of Wichita and Clara Tiberghien of Alva; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son and a brother.
