Rites Held for Pioneer, Father of I. F. Woman
Mackay, May 20. - Funeral services were held at Mackay Thursday afternoon for James Beverland, pioneer resident of Lost river. Burial took place at the Moore-Lost river cemetery in the family plot.
Mr. Beverland had been in poor health for several months, and died unexpectedly at Challis Tuesday afternoon. He was born at Logan, Utah, November 20, 1870,and came to Lost river valley with his parents in 1885 at the age of 15.
He farmed for several years after his arrival on Lost river but in 1906, he moved to Mackay where he engaged in business until 1908, at which time he acquired the present Beverland ranch at the edge of Mackay. Between 1908 and 1915 he had extensive mining interests in Lost river and Salmon river section.
He was united in marriage to Diana Frances Kent at old Houston in 1896. Three children were born to this union. Mrs. Thomas Vaughn of Idaho Falls; Harvey of Mackay and Verle, who died in 1916 at the age of 13 years. His children, his widow and three grandchildren survive in addition to two brothers, Alex and Arch Beverland of Moore, and a sister, Mrs. Marion King of Moore.
Mr. Beverland was a life member of Pocatello lodge of Elks.
Funeral services were conducted from the L. D. S. church in Mackay, C. A. Bottolfsen of Arco gave the obituary. Burial was under the direction of the Lee Funeral Home.
