BLUEFIELD - Pauline S. "Pete" Powers, 86, of Route 3 Box 714 (Lorton Lick Road), Bluefield, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at a Bluefield hospital.
Born on Dec. 14, 1918 in Barren Springs, Va., she was a daughter of the late James L. and Cora Lee Marshall Sutphin. She had been a resident of Lorton Lick Road for 55 years and was a faithful member of Pine Grove Church of Christ. Working 30 years, she was retired from the meat department of Kroger. She was a member of the United Food Workers of America.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Bascum Raymond Powers; three brothers, James Charlie and Deco Sutphin; and five sisters, Sylvia Lawson, Lorraine Shrewsbury, Opal Horton, Emily Jardine, and Virginia Gabris preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Darrell Powers and wife, Janet of Rt. 3, Bluefield; three grandchildren, Darrell and Tina Powers of Rt. 1, Bluefield, Doug and Lisa Powers of Rt. 5, Bluefield, Sherry Powers of Rt. 3, Bluefield; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Powers of Rt. 1, Bluefield; one sister, Clara Georgeff of Detroit, Mich.; brother-in-law, Charles Gabris of St. Clare's Shore, Mich.; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Sutphin of Bluefield.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, with Ministers Tony Reed and Jack Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, with nephews serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call this evening from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
