Joyce Lucille Bates, of Fletcher, OK, was born November 7, 1928 to O.H. "Buster" and Opal (Stepp) Robinson in Cyril. She passed away on August 7, 2021 at the age of 92 at Glenwood Assisted Living, Chickasha.
Joyce attended public school in Cyril. Joyce married Charles "Smokey" Bates on September 9, 1946 at Lawton. Together they had three children, Charles "Charlie", Dennis, and Kim.
Joyce enjoyed quilting and baking "chocolate and pecan pies". Joyce was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fletcher, American Legion, and the First Christian Church Quilters of Cyril. She worked 30 years at Woodward's Department Store in Cyril working for Dwight and Chris selling fabric, clothing, and boots.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edwin Robinson; sister, Betty Brown and her husband, Jimmy Brown; son, Charlie Bates; and grandson, Mike Bates.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 74 years, Charles; son, Dennis Bates and wife Ellen of Edmond; daughter, Kim McAllister and husband Randall of Duncan; 4 grandchildren: Scott Bates and wife Robin of McKinney, TX, Marc Bates and wife Michelle of Goldsby, Christi Jacobs and husband Matt of McKinney, and Kara Whitten and husband Jeremiah of Duncan; a bonus granddaughter, P.J. Dirksen and husband Ryan of Marlow; daughter-in-law, Krista Bates of Edmond; 11 great-grandchildren: Jackson and Jessica Bates, Zoie and Camden Bates, Allison and Lauren Bates, Mattie and Meagan Jacobs, Logan and Karamya Whitten, and Jett Dirksen; daughters-in-law, Carolyn Ford Bates and Gloria Bates; and sister-in-law, Ella Mae Robinson.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 13, from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at Cyril Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 14, at the First Baptist Church of Fletcher with Rev. Kip Ackley officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cyril Funeral Home.
