Martha Longest Tuttle, 102, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2nd, 2021.

Martha's long life was full of joy, and overflowing with loving family and friends. She was born in Biscoe, Virginia, on July 10th, 1919, to the late Frank Brown Longest and Martha Jane Jeter Longest. The Longest family moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina in 1933 and made their home on Tarboro Street where they raised their four girls and three boys.

Martha graduated from Rocky Mount High School as a member of the first 12th grade class in 1937. She went on to graduate from Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and worked as a secretary at Enterprise Furniture Company in Rocky Mount.

Martha was a lifelong Baptist, and was actively involved in her church life. For many years, she attended First Baptist Church, where she and Harold Pulliam Tuttle were married in 1943. The Tuttle family joined Lakeside Baptist Church as charter members in 1955, and Martha was active in many aspects of church life until she moved to Rock Hill, SC in 2013 to be near her family.

In 1948 Martha and Tut built their new family home in West Haven in Rocky Mount where they lived 49 wonderful years there together prior to his death in 1992. The neighborhood was a perfect place to raise their three boys, with 52 kids within two blocks along Taylor St.

She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Harold "Tut" Tuttle; son Thomas "Tommy" Stephen Tuttle; three brothers, Colonel Thomas Longest, Frank Longest, and Beaufort Longest, Sr.; and two sisters, Edna Longest and Edith Leggett.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons: Harold P. "Skip" Tuttle, Jr. (Judy) and W. Bryan Tuttle (Kathy); sister Mary Catherine "Kitty" Klemovich of Kansas; precious grandchildren: Jason Tuttle (Shelley), Kacki Sweeney (Chris), Bradley Tuttle (Shea), Wesley Tuttle (Lori), Travis Stine (Ming Zhuo), and Nathan Stine; great grandchildren: Ava, Addison, Wilson, Walker, Carsyn, Collin, Charli, Mallory, and Ella; and many precious nieces and nephews. Martha was especially close to her nieces, Jane Stroud and Barbara Raynor, who visited her often.

The family will have a private family graveside service at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount on Saturday, August 14. Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home are taking care of the burial arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Martha Longest Tuttle to the Memorial Fund at Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, North Carolina 27804.
