She was born August 11, 1934, at Ainsworth, Nebraska, to William and Anne (Edwards) Oatman. She grew up there and graduated from Ainsworth High School. In the early 1950's she moved with her family to the Springfield, Missouri area.
On December 10, 1953 she and Robert L. Wood were married at Mount Vernon, Missouri. They made their home in Parsons in April of 1957.
In the early 1970's Beverley began working in real estate and became a real estate broker and insurance agent. She became a partner with the late Gary Seaton in the Seaton-Wood Agency that later evolved into the Wood-Dulohery Insurance and Real Estate business. She served several terms as president of the Labette County Board of Realtors and several times was named "Realtor of the Year" by her peers. She retired in 2000.
For a number of years she was a marketing agent for an upscale clothing line, an activity that was both hobby and business.
Beverley was a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church and had been an elder and deacon and worked in various other capacities. She had been a member of the Presbyterian Manor board and was a member of Chapter BS, P.E.O. She loved to cook and entertain and many times hosted office parties in her home. Gardening, traveling and looking for antiques were other hobbies she enjoyed.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 68 years, Robert L. "Bob" Wood, of the home, daughter Robyn Wood and husband Dr. Pat Moriarty of Lawrence, son Bob Wood and wife Suzanne of Parsons; four grandchildren, Bryan Cargill and wife Stephanie of Lawrence, Caitlyn Dolar and husband Danny Dolar of Augusta, Georgia, Emily Wood of Frontenac and Matthew Wood of Frisco, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Penny, of Lawrence, Deja and Dominick of Augusta, Georgia; and a brother, William "Bill" Oatman of Springfield, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann McCorcle.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jennifer Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday. The family requests that anyone who has not received the Covid vaccination please wear a mask.
