Fred Joseph " Joe" Jacobs, Jr., 87, passed away on March 19, 2023.

He was born on September 5, 1935 in Fordyce, Arkansas.

Joe joined the Navy in May of 1954 and served 4 years. In 1958, after being honorably discharged, he attended Nashville Auto and Diesel. He received his certificate in welding and moved to Ft. Worth, TX. He worked as a welder for General Steele for 8 years. He moved to Houston for a brief time. He worked for the Texas highway department in the Material and Test Division.

He then moved back to Ft. Worth and worked for Trinity Steel as a welder. There, he met the love of his life, Linda Porter and they were married on Sept 5, 1964. In 1974, him and Linda decided to start a family. They moved to Fordyce, AR and he worked for Derby Oil Company as an area supervisor. When Derby Oil sold out, he decided to go into business for himself. After selling his gas station in the mid 80's he went to work at Dallas County Hospital and worked in maintenance until his retirement in 1997.

Joe was an active member of First United Methodist church in Fordyce and later in Hallsville. He was also a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Fordyce Optimist club for 5 years serving as president for 1 year. In 1977 he received the Fordyce Optimist of the year award. For 4 years he worked with the Girl's softball team sponsored by the Optimist club. He also served as city councilman for many years.

He will be remembered by everyone by his infectious smile, his hearty laugh, his kind spirit and generous heart and by all the many, many jokes and funny stories he told.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Linda Jacobs; his parents, Fred Joe Jacobs, Sr. and Susie Jacobs; and his sister, Patsy Barmes.

He is survived by his daughters, Sonya Holman (David) and Nancy Schwin (Ronnie); and his grandchildren: Jessica Schwin, Will Schwin, Madison Abuhatab (Abed), Haley Holman, and Payton Holman.

The memorial services will be held in First United Methodist Church in Hallsville, TX. The burial services will be held at Stony Point Cemetery.
