Roger Lane Duba, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully, with family members at his side, on the morning of July 23, 2021. He was 93 years old. Roger was born in 1928 in Chamberlain, South Dakota, the third son of Alois (Louis) and Bessie Duba. He spent his early years in South Dakota, except for one memorable year in California, where he saw the openings of the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge. He lived on a farm in South Dakota and attended a one room schoolhouse through 8th grade where his mother was his teacher. He attended Platte High School, where he participated in almost every club and sport offered and graduated in 1946. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan for two years. It was then he learned that to get letters he needed to write them. Thus, began a lifelong habit of sending weekly letters to his mother and then eventually to all his adult daughters. After discharge in 1948, Roger attended college on the G.I. Bill, graduating from South Dakota State University in 1952 with a degree in History. He began his career with the Social Security Administration (SSA) in Omaha, NE in 1952. His work took him to Minneapolis, Kansas City, Davenport, IA and ultimately to the San Francisco Regional Office, where he was eventually promoted to Assistant Regional Commissioner. Roger met his wife, Phyllis, at the Minneapolis office of the Social Security Administration. They were married on December 18, 1954. They had three wonderful daughters. When transferred to California, the family settled in Marin County, where Roger remained for 55 years.
