A memorial graveside service will take place 1:30 pm. Saturday November 30, 2013 in the Barnett family plot at Montrepose Cemetery, Cantor Robert Cohen will officiate.

Charles S. Barnett, 97, of Englewood, Florida and formerly of Kingston, New York died at his home in Englewood Florida Friday November 15, 2013. Born July 3, 1916 in New York City, he was a son of the late Samuel and Rose Ruth Bookman Barnett.

Charles attended Delhi College majoring in Pre-Veterinary and Animal Husbandry studies. Charles was drafted into the United States Army during World War II and served as a medic. While serving in England during wartime; he met and married Rose Ellen Harney.

After honorable discharge, Charles returned home with Rose and entered into Jeweler and Watch making school. He was the owner of Barnett's Jewelers located on North Front Street until his retirement in 1978 when he and Rose moved to Florida. His wife Rose died in 2000.

Charles was a former member of the Hurley Lions Club and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.

Surviving are two daughters; Linda Hopfenspirger and her husband Thomas of Stone Ridge, and Beryl Tashjian and her husband Bruce of Santa Clarita, CA; grandchildren; Mehren and Kurt Hopfenspirger, Steven and Michael Sastrom. Nieces and nephews also survive.

A son; James and siblings; Albert Barnett, Eloise Resnick and Blossom Walczack all died previously.
