Michael Andrus Abshire, 55, of Sulphur went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 5, 2021, in Marksville, LA.

Michael was the youngest of 10 children, he attended Jack Drost School and had worked for CARC. He was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. He loved bingo, music, eating out, children and babies; but cherished spending time with his family and friends, celebrating holidays, especially Christmas and Easter and of course, his birthday. Most importantly, Michael had a great love for the Lord and was deeply devoted to his faith. Michael was born with down syndrome; his family, especially his siblings, nieces, and nephews; experienced an added spirit and love they would have never known if he had not been gifted to them. He had a sweet and childlike nature, warm smile, and he never met a stranger; his "big" hugs will be missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Ruby A. O'Neal of Sulphur, Dianna Smith and husband, James "Jim" of Moss Bluff; Roberta Abshire LeDoux of Sulphur and Marilyn George and husband, Jeff of Sulphur; sisters-in-law, Katie R. Abshire, and Ruth Abshire; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrus and Jennie Abshire; three brothers, Gene Allen Abshire, Jimmie Wayne Abshire, Sr., and Ned Leroy Abshire; two sisters, Brenda Faye Schultz, and Judy Ann Abshire; sister-in-law, Maryann Abshire; brother-in-law, J.D. Schultz; niece, Patty Schultz Thibodeaux; and nephew, Jimmie Wayne Abshire, Jr.

The family wishes to "Thank" Dr. Brian Stewart and his nurse, Jennifer for the wonder care they provided to Michael for over 20 years. He adored both of you.

They also wish to "Thank" a few of Michael's special friends for sharing their love and time with Michael. You all were very dear to him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1pm, Saturday, August 7, 2021, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Father Edward Richard, M.S. will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery of Carlyss under the direction of Johnson & Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the Father Vecchio Hall at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Saturday, 9:30 am – 1 pm, with a recitation of the Rosary at 11 am.
