Carol was born in El Paso on July 12, 1943, a daughter to William and Evelyn Punke Kearfott. She married Roger Craig. She later married Howard Newell, in Normal on December 31, 1979. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Surviving are her children, Todd Craig, Chillicothe; Rodney (Nora) Craig, Bloomington, Scott (Melissa) Craig, Lacon, Norma (George) Smoley, Nashville, Tenn., Edward Newell, Peoria; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Jane) Kearfott, Joyce Garrett, Robert (Karen) Kearfott, Randy (Jill) Kearfott.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Timothy, and Mark; a brother, William Jr.; and sister Linda.
Carol graduated from Lexington High School. She enjoyed serving as Administrative Assistant for the Head Start Program for several years. She was also very passionate about painting and always signed her paintings as "Peanut". Her grandchildren were her greatest love, and they would always refer to her as "Grandma Apple" because of her kitchen design and all the apples they would see when they would visit. She'll be dearly missed.
